Hello, I'm Colby Brokvist.
I’m Waypoint's founder and lead instructor, drawing on over 20 years of field experience as a professional guide and expedition leader.
I wrote the award-winning textbook The Professional Guide's Handbook and facilitate training and enrichment programs for many well-known adventure operators, non-profits, and universities worldwide.
My Story
I first had the idea to become a guide during a transformative 5-month wilderness journey along the Appalachian Trail. After hustling for volunteer guiding experience and earning a basic medical certification, I began my career as a backpacking and rock climbing guide. Since then, I've moved into expedition style trips focused on multisport activities and conservation travel. My work has taken me to 6 continents (sorry Australia!), on trips ranging from trekking and rock climbing to safaris and photography to sea kayaking and polar sailing. In addition to my guiding work, I chair the Polar Tourism Guide's Association, and was featured in the short film The Guide.
Why Waypoint?
Adventure travel is surging, and there is more demand than ever for skilled guides. But field training is costly and time consuming. That's why I launched Waypoint Guide Academy – an accessible pathway for guides like you to develop your skillset and have success in the field.
